ANTIQUE EARLY 20TH CENTURY WOODENSHOESHINE-BOY
POLISHING CADDY/WORK
FOOTSTOOL, W/ART DECO 'WATERFALL' SIDEWALLS & FORM, ON RAISED FEET,
W/SLANTED FOOTREST
(Circa 1920-1935)
This vintage early 20th century wooden shoeshine-boy footstool/polishing caddy, features Art Deco, curved veneer wooden body design, with cut-out feet and arched footrest. The interior compartment was fashioned to hold ox hair shoe polishing brushes, shoe polish paste in tins, rags and other period shoe-shining accessories. This was really all an urban shoeshine boy or for that matter girl, needed to set up shop at a railroad station, bus terminal, taxi stand or on a street corner anywhere. This shoeshine kit allowed them to be self-reliant and self-sustaining, in a less than benevolent world and one ravaged by economic decline and the Great Depression. This authentic, untouched, unmolested and 100% original, early 20th century shoeshine polishing caddy or footstool, is complete and hasn'
t been bastardized or altered from its original state. It was not found with the brushes, polish tins and rags, that would have surely been kept inside in the interior, built-in compartment. It boasts a varnished pine surface, routered pine compound edging and sidewalls, steamed in a round, Art Deco inspired form. Time warp again. Terrific.
