    Description

    You are bidding on 4 framed and matted (10" X 13-1/2") memorabilia of Hungarian pianist LOUIS KENTNER (1905-1987).
    The 3" x 5" photo of Kentner is signed below photo. In lower right bottom there is also a signature of Kentner.
    There is a clip of a Sherborne School Concert Club in it's First Season-1948 and a concert June 13 (no year) of a solo recital.
    Kentner was a student of the Budapest Royal Academy from 1911. He won 5th prize in the Int. Chopin Comp., Warsaw, in 1932 came in 3rd in the Liszt Competition in 1933. First appeared in US in 1935 where he settled, becoming naturalized in 1946. Married to Ilona Kabos 1931-45, and with her gave premiere of revised Bartok piano sonata for two pianos and percussion in London in 1942.
    He is known to have broadcast the complete sonatas of Beethoven, Schubert and the complete Well-Tempered Clavier. Divorcing Kabos, he later married Griseida Gould, daughter of pianist Evelyn Suart (Lady Harcourt) who other daughter, Diana became Yehudi Menuhin's second wife.
    Kentner made his American debut in 1956 and in 1987 was honored, CBE.
