Paco Aguilar from The Aguilar Quartet. In 1923, four of the six children of Dr. Francisco Aguilar, Paco, Ezequiel, Pepe and Elisa, born in Murcia, created a quartet of lutes. They were recognized in Europe and America and within a year they came to offer more than 200 concerts. When the Quartet was dissolved in the 1940s, only Paco, accompanied on piano by Donato Colacelli, continued to give concerts.
One of the most striking characteristics of the Aguilar Quartet is its formation with Spanish pick instruments: laudín or bandurria (Ezequiel Aguilar), laudete (Pepe Aguilar), lute (Elisa Aguilar) and laudón (Paco Aguilar). Its quality, filling and effects led great creators of the time to write and adapt numerous scores for them. The Quartet traveled the world with unusual instruments in concert halls and in any case considered initially incapable of satisfying notable musical demands.
