    Three-quarter-length portrait in costume (unknown role) signed "Richard Franz" in black ink. From the studio of A. Adler, Dresden, with decorative gilt studio imprint to lower margin and studio details printed to verso. 165 x 107 mm.

    Richard Franz was an Austrian actor. In his early years he was considered highly promising; he gave his Dresden debut in 1889 (Ernst Roeder, Dresdner Hoftheater der Gegenwart: Neue Folge [Dresden and Leipzig, 1896], pp. 142-61). In 1914, the "former actor of heroic roles in Dresden, now in Mainz" became director of the court theater in Braunschweig (Die Musik 13, part 2 [Berlin, 1914], p. 366).
