1930's–1940's Autograph Album including Musical Quotation by Schoenberg
An impressive autograph album containing hundreds of signatures from musicians, collected in the 1930's–1940's in the home of Los Angeles Philharmonic patron Bessie Bartlett Frankel, the location of many musical gatherings. Highlights include a signature (December 13, 1934) from Arnold Schoenberg with an AMQS from the fourth movement of his String Quartet no. 2 ("Ich bin ein Funke nur vom heiligen Feuer"); a signature (February 21, 1935) with inscription in French from Igor Stravinsky, together on a page with signatures from Otto Klemperer, Samuel Dushkin and others; signatures and/or musical quotations from many conductors who worked with the Los Angeles Philharmonic during the era, including Pierre Monteux, Bernardino Molinari, Georg Szell, Bruno Walter and John Barbirolli; and many noted instrumentalists and singers, including Emanuel and Eva Feuerman. 41 pp. of autographs in total, with the remaining pages of the album left blank. The first three pages of the volume are dedicated to Bessie Bartlett Frankel with an elaborately illuminated inscription and signed by a large group of friends. Full red leather binding with overall gold tooling. Boards slightly buckled, some light shelf wear, but overall very fine with autographs in excellent condition.
