Autograph manuscript in the hand of the Hungarian composer, identified at the head "
Ujmagyar [Újmagyar] kapcsolatai A5A[-]val" (

"), in which he has written out 27 short two-part musical fragments, likely fragments of folk tunes copied from an unidentified collection. The musical excerpts are numbered intermittently from 87 to 295a, and various notes have been made in pen and pencil on the music and in the margins, including the intervals between the two voices, and the foot of page 1 "

2 pp. on a bifolium with 24 hand-drawn staves per page. Some wear, small tears and toning to the edges, but overall in very good condition. 10 x 13 inches (25.1 x 33.1 cm).
Autograph manuscripts of the Hungarian composer, pedagogue and influential ethnomusicologist are uncommon. In 1905 he began visiting remote villages to collect songs, recording them on phonograph cylinders and in 1906 he wrote the thesis on Hungarian folk song ("Strophic Construction in Hungarian Folksong"). Around this time Kodály met fellow composer Béla Bartók, whom he took under his wing and introduced to some of the methods involved in folk song collecting. The two became lifelong friends and champions of each other's music.
